The CANARY Gallery WAS a multi-faceted contemporary arts space in the New Orleans Arts District. The Canary Gallery ceased operation with curator and coordinator, Zack Smith, taking more time for his photography business. Gallery owner, and often artist, Blake Haney, continues to transform the Canary brand. Visit both of their sites, and please come see what the gallery is on Julia Street - Dirty Coast Press on Julia Street. www.zacksmith.com - www.thecanarycollective.com

Keith Duncan at CANARY Gallery
CANARY GALLERY present "Stereotypes of Race and Class" - New Paintings by New Orleans artist Keith Duncan
I am honored to have local artist Keith Duncan showing the last official solo show at Canary, and of 2011. I have admired his work over the years, and today i got a sneak peak at his new series which will be up at CANARY during Art for Arts Sake 2011, opening October 1st.
Keith straddles the line between mockery and public education on themes of race and class.
..."humor and satire, with a social political awareness, are the ideological factors in this new series of art work(s)....i am drawn to the conclusion that due to a dominant culture's view of African Americans and Blacks as a race, stereotypes or "types" are continuously being produced, manufactured and displayed., it shows how "far" we've gone as a society on the issues of race and class" - Keith Duncan
I also am proud to say that Keith has a show of older work in the Healing Center on St. Claude as part of Prospect 2. Great job Keith. And to all of you out there, don't miss this opening.
We will also have a closing for Keith's birthday November 3rd.
