The CANARY Gallery WAS a multi-faceted contemporary arts space in the New Orleans Arts District.
The Canary Gallery ceased operation with curator and coordinator, Zack Smith, taking more time for his photography business. Gallery owner, and often artist, Blake Haney, continues to transform the Canary brand. Visit both of their sites, and please come see what the gallery is on Julia Street - Dirty Coast Press on Julia Street.

Derek Bowen Nehrbass b. Lafayette Louisiana, 1982 BFA Printmaking from UNO 2006.
The CANARY Gallery is pleased to present to New Orleans, the first large collection of prints and drawings from Lafayette, LA native Derek Nehrbass. Nehrbass' view of New Orleans both pre and post-K is seen through sketches on bar napkins to do-it-yourself paper models of FEMA trailers. Nehrbass' complex woodcut about piled up shotguns called "Babel" as well as large scale drawing transposing Dante's Inferno over the lower 9th Ward New Orleans, delve into the complexity of the city's struggle and shifting evoltution as told through pen and ink sketches. Most of these sketches were culled from Nehrbass' large collection of old bar napkins that he has collected from his many patrons over the years, bartending at the late night hip bar, The Saint.
